#networkers2010 – free exam

One of the benefits of going to networkers is that you get to take a “free” exam – so I took CCIE Voice Written, and I passed :-)  Now for the easy part – the Lab!  Wish me luck!

I’ll start posting here about it when I throw myself into setting up my lab kit and working through the IP Expert labs.

#networkers2010 – BRK-3000 Advanced Dial Plan Design for IP Telephony Networks

The last session of Networkers always has the possibility of being a drag. I had moved this session on Tuesday to accommodate another, so I was wait-listed on this one – fortunately I got in as this session was excellent.

Luc Bouchard is an excellent presenter and was able to engage a tired and battered audience at the end of a long week.

The main themes of this session were – design on paper before implementing anything; keep it simple, overlap - “bad”, think global act local. There were discussions regarding new 7.x dial plan features including:“+” dialling (hint: for ip phones without the ability to dial a “+”  i.e. almost all of them, use another key e.g. “*” in place of the “+”) ; Local route groups - reduces duplication in the dial plan; Calling/called transformations – make the caller lists dial-able. He also showed how, by implementing E.164 as your internal dial-plan, combined with the new 7.x features, many benefits were attained for pre-7.x features including AAR and mobility.

This session was a great way to finish Networkers, and although I thought I understood how to implement what was discussed before I went into the session, I still learned plenty and was very comfortable with the content afterwards.
